Far and Away - 1992 - The pipes can be heard during the opening of the main titles.
Fame - 1980 - In the very first minutes (during the audition sequence) one of the students attempting to gain entry to the New York High School of the Performing Arts was playing the Highland Pipes.
Family Ties (TV) There was an episode where a house guest of the Keatons played bagpipes in the middle of the night, and Alex (Michael J. Fox) ran into his parent's bedroom shouting "what the hell is that?".
Ferris Bueller's Day Off - 1986 103 minutes - Directed by John Hughes, and starring Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck, the movie is about a rich kid's day off from school. It contains a parade scene with a pipe band.
Ffolkes (a.k.a. assault force; North Sea Hijack)- 1980 100 minutes. Directed by Andrew V. McLaglen, starring Roger Moore, James Mason, and Anthony Perkins. The movie is a sort of poor-man's James Bond thriller, with a thoroughly misogynous hero. During the opening credits, a distant piper is heard but not seen. In the closing scene, while ffolkes (Roger Moore) receives an award from a grateful Prime Minister, a piper plays.
The Field - 1990 110 minutes - This film is directed by Jim Sheridan and stars Richard Harris and John Hurt. It is the story of an Irishman's blood ties to the land. Set in the 1930's, a wealthy widow decides to sell the land Bill McCabe has farmed to an American. It contains some Uilleann piping; also Stockton's Wing.
The Fighting Prince of Donegal - 1966 - This Disney production has some great highland bagpipes playing at a couple of differnt spots if. It seems they are played in a feast scene near the beginning of the film, that takes place at the castle of The MacSweeney, then again toward the end when the big battle is being fought at Donegal castle, to roust out the English invaders. The real highlight of the film though, is a fight scene in the courtyard of the prison where Hugh Roe O' Donnell is being held. The combatants bump against the wall of the courtyard, and if you watch carefully it ripples, proving to be a curtain painted to look like a brick wall.
55 Days at Peking - 1963 - Piping accompanies the Scots detachment (who follow the Ghurka detachment) when the siege of the foreign compound in Peking is lifted (about 10 minutes before the end of the 154-minute movie). Only about 15-30 seconds of piping is heard and no pipers are visible.
Five Graves to Cairo - 1943 - This is not one of Director Billy Wilder's best films. An English soldier impersonates a German spy in order to learn the secret of Rommel's five graves. At the end, when the Allied forces are sweeping across the desert, a piper is shown playing. Decent fingering, but somewhat uneven blowing.
The Four Musketeers - (a.k.a. The Revenge of Milady) - 1975 108 minutes - Directed by Richard Lester this sequel to the Three by that name stars Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain, etc. It is not a particularly good movie, but then neither was the Three Musketeers. It features a bagpipe and hurdy-gurdy duo playing in a tavern scene.
Four Weddings and a Funeral - 1994 - The piper at one of the weddings plays Mairi's Wedding and then Highland Cathedral at the reception. Other tunes in the film are Barren Rocks of Aden and Donald MacLeod's,The 51st Highland Division.
Francis in the Haunted House - 1956 - This old black & white who-done-it movie stared a donkey cum detective named Francis (a kind of Mr. Ed foreshadowing with a Sherlock Holmes twist). The pipes were played by the bad guys to create the impression that the house (a castle, actually) was inhabited by a piping ghost. Alas, the motives for this nefarious subterfuge go unrecalled.
Frugal Gourmet - Jeff Smit does an episode on Scottish cooking and includes a little segment on the bagpipes. At the end a pipe band plays in the studio.
The Fugitive - 1993 - features a parade scene in which all the piping was done by the Chicago Stock Yards Kilty Band, founded in 1921. The sound track was made by Eric Rigler, Glen Thompson and Aaron Shaw with lots of overdubbing to make it sound like a whole pipe band. They play Wha Saw the 42nd.
