This chronology is the work of . There is also a list of Betsy's descendants and a chronology for Asa and Sally (Betsy's parents).
Officially, Betsy's name was Elizabeth (as recorded for her marraige and death), but she apparently was always known by her nickname (even in the census records).
1807 Jan 14 | Betsy is born. Her family was living on lot 35 on the fifth concession of Augusta Township at this time. |
1814 Oct 14 | Betsy, along with seven of her brothers and sisters, is baptized by William Smart, Minister of the Presbyterian Congregation, Brockville. |
1825 | Betsy leaves home about this time. |
1830 | The census for Kitley Township, Leeds County taken this year shows Benjamin Soper and family living on part of lots 19 and 20 of the eighth concession. Benjamin and his first wife, whose name may have been Elizabeth Hammond, had at this time four sons and three daughters, all under 16. The sons were Melancthon (born ~1818), William (born ~1824), Oscar (born ~1825), and Alfred (born ~1827). The daughters were Hannah who was born about 1829 and married Levi Manning, and two others born by 1820: Elizabeth who married Richard Welch, and one who married Norman Emerson. |
1832 | The census taken this year shows that Benjamins first wife had died by this time. The Soper household consisted of Benjamin and four sons and three daughters, all still under 16. |
1832 May 1 | Betsy marries Benjamin Soper. He is about 47 and she is 25. Both are listed as living in Kitley Township. Its possible that Betsy was living with Isaac and Polly Marshall at the time of her marriage. |
1834 | Census numbers suggest that Betsy and Benjamin have a daughter born about this time. She was Phebe Ann who later married a Thompson. |
1838 | Their son Norman is born. |
1839 | Their daughter Ruth is born. |
1839 | Betsy and Benjamin Soper move across the river to Hammond, St. Lawrence County, NY. |
1840 | The head-of-household census taken this year in Hammond lists, in addition to Benjamin and Betsy, a male 20-30 (Melancthon), two males 15-20 and one male 10-15 (William, Oscar and Alfred), one male under 5 (Norman), two females 20-30 (Elizabeth and ?), one female 10-15 (Hannah), one female 5-10 (Phebe Ann), and one female under 5 (Ruth). |
1841 | Their son Horace is born. |
1844 | Their daughter Ordelia is born. |
Between 1845 and 1847? | Their daughter Arminda is born. Arminda is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammond, but the stone is difficult to read, and her dates cant be determined. However, she must have died before the 1860 census was taken. |
1848 | Their daughter Elinora is born. |
1850 | Betsy and family are either away or missed when the census is taken this year, as they dont appear in the Hammond records. |
1858 Oct 9 | Ruth dies and is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. |
1860 | In the census taken this year for Hammond, Benjamin and Betsy appear with Norman, Horace, Ordelia (listed as sick), Elinora, and Eliza Becket, whose connection to the family, if any, isn't known. |
1860 Aug 9 | Ordelia dies and is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. |
Between 1860 and 1870 | Benjamin dies and is probably buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, but there is no stone. |
1861 Dec 28 | Horace dies and is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. |
1870 | In the census taken this year for Hammond, Betsy appears with Norman and Elinora. |
1878 Feb 11 | Betsy Soper dies and is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. |
1893 | Norman dies and is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. |
