Annexed Documents to the
Deposition of 1845

About this document

• The documents annexed to the Jan 3, 1845 Deposition.

• Transcribed by D. Esarey/S. Santure, Feb. 2000

• The documents annexed to the Jan 3, depositions were original records and a testimonial by the local minister attempting to show why there were not birth or baptismal records for the children of Asa and Sally. These documents are especially fortunate inclusions in as much as give us first hand account of the children’s birthdates in Asa’s own handwriting, plus a clearer understanding of what life and local government in Upper Canada in the first decades after its settlement must have been like. No clergy, irregular record keeping, etc.

• Items in the document which are presentd in square brackets, e.g., [Ehpraim], are editorial insertions for clarity and are not found in the original.
