David Samuel Baldwin's
Deposition 1844

About this document

• Nov. 5, 1844 deposition of David S. Baldwin in support of Sally Webster pension efforts.

• Repository: No. W18329, Webster, Asa/Sally, cover Page Continental NH/VT, National Archives, Washington, D.C.

• Transcribed by D. Esarey/S. Santure, Feb. 2000

• Comments: Sally's brother David, who had been raised in Elizabethtown from a young age (about 6 years old), moved further west circa 1823, when he was middle aged. In November 1844, he was living in Howard Township of Canada West when he filed this deposition across the border in Detroit to support Sally's effort to obtain her widow's pension. David's deposition was for the purpose of verifying Sally's age and marriage to Asa, since she could not provide documentary evidence of either.
